Spring Sport EB One

2020 Spring Sporting Events

This year is a big year for sport – and not just because of the upcoming Tokyo Olympics! There are exciting events in tennis, football, rugby, golf, cricket, and more. There’s so much to keep track of, we’ve decided to round up a few of the spring sporting highlights to plan your days around.

Australian Open

20th January – 2nd February

The first Grand Slam of the year will see Novak Djokovic and Naomi Osaka defend their singles titles in this annual championship. We’ll also get to watch Jamie Murray come back fighting in the men’s doubles after his disappointing defeat in last year’s quarter-finals.

Six Nations Championship

1st February – 14th March

A hotly anticipated event every year, the Six Nations will see England, Wales, Ireland, Scotland, France, and Italy fight it out once again for the win. Last year’s exciting tournament saw Wales snatch the title from Ireland – their first Six Nations win since 2013. Will they get to keep their coveted title for a second year running?

ICC Women’s T20 World Cup

21st February – 8th March

Being held in the defending Champion’s home country of Australia, the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup will see its final falling on International Women’s Day. This year, Thailand have qualified for the tournament for the first time and will be hoping to prove their mettle.

The Cheltenham Festival

10th March – 13th March

This prestigious annual festival boasts 4 days of incredible jump racing, entertainment, and hospitality. There are a total of 28 races and ends in style with the Cheltenham Gold Cup Steeple Chase on Day Four.

2020 Spring Sport PIS

The Masters, Augusta

9th April – 12th April

Tiger Woods was back on top form last year and is intending to defend his 2019 title this year. Expected to compete in 2020 is England’s 2016 champion, Danny Willet, and the Scottish 1988 champion, Sandy Lyle. Disappointingly for some golf fans, this year is the first time since 1963 that there won’t be any live coverage of the competition on free-to-air TV in the UK, as Sky Sports has secured exclusive rights to the coverage.

FA Cup Final

23rd May

In 2019 the FA Cup was won by Premier League side Manchester City, but the participating clubs of this year’s event will need to claw their way into the Quarter-Finals on 21st March and the Semi-Finals on the 18th April before they can face their fate in the May final.

UEFA Euro

12th June – 12th July

Perfectly bridging the year’s spring and summer events, the Euro 2020 Championship is set to see Portugal attempt to hold on to their 2016 win. England will be hoping to redeem themselves this year following their shocking defeat to Iceland in the first knockout stage four years ago.
